The 5mm Helmet Cup LEDs are similar in appearance to traditional 5mm LEDs but the format of this LED creates a greater light opening angle of 120 degrees, obtaining a homogeneous dispersion of light.
Due to their diameter of 5mm, the Helmet LEDs are compatible with any type of LED holder of that measure. They are useful for achieving lighting effects in confined spaces because they are shorter than the traditional 5mm LED.
How To Use:
Below the dome there are two extended legs: the longer leg is the positive polarity, called anode and the shorter leg is the negative polarity, called cathode. These legs indicate the way in which the LED should be connected to the circuit.
These LEDs can be used in three different ways:
- Individual: LED power directly from the power supply, either by means of a regulated supply, or with the use of resistors or regulators. It must supply the LED the desired voltage in work values.
- Parallel configuration: Powering a group of LEDs connecting all of the anodes together and all of the cathodes together, using the required tension regulated by a single resistor in series.
- Series configuration: powering a group of LEDs connected sequentially. The number of LEDs used for series is limited by the voltage delivered by the power supply. In most cases a resistor is required to compensate for voltage differences per series of LEDs. Various parallel series can perform using the same power source.
Polarization: the positive pole of the power supply must be connected to the anode, the longer leg (or the beginning of the series), while the negative pole must be connected to the cathode, the shorter leg (or the end of the series).
Use: They can be used for lighting, signage, traffic lights, flashlights, signaling devices, information panels, medical equipment, lighting of liquid crystal displays of mobile phones, calculators, PDAs, printers, bicycles, and more.
Applications: The 120-degree opening allows for broader lighting effects, making the Helmet Cup LEDs ideal for places where you need the light to be dispersed. Being narrower than traditional LEDs, they can easily fit into tight spaces.
Technical Data
Beam Pattern: 120 º
Working Current: 20mA
Working Voltage: Power Supply Recommendations:
- DC3.1V @ 20mA: -Blue – Warm White – Cool White – Green
- Voltage min. Power: DC2.8V
- Voltage max. Power: DC3.6V
- DC2.1V @ 20mA: - Yellow - Red:
- Voltage min. Power: DC1.8V
- Voltage max. Power: DC2.4V
Suggestion: If you need to adapt the LED to a small space, you can cut the legs using common scissors without compromising installation conditions. If you want to use a greater number of LEDs in the same physical space, you can use the 1.8mm or 3mm LEDs. On the other hand, you can use the 8mm or 10mm LEDs to cover more space, using fewer LEDs.
Available colors: yellow, blue, warm white, cool white, red and green.
Attention: The Operating Voltage of this product is DC; never connect it to AC directly.
For optimum performance, do not exceed maximum load and the Power Supply should be 20% (approx.) stronger (Amps) than the total required to run your system.
Don’t forget to buy the following:
